One of nursing experts owned by UNAIR is Nursalam. The Dean of the Faculty of Nursing attended an undergraduate program at Lambton College, Sarnia Ontario and then he continued his masters program at the University of Wollongong Australia and his doctoral program at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). This year, Nursalam published a book with Airlangga University Press entitled Asuhan Keperawatan pada Pasien Diabet. The faculty member born in Kediri on 25 December 1966 believes that the graduates of nursing undergraduate program have a great prospect. The demand for nurses will always increase as the population increases. Thus, nursing graduates should be qualified. UNAIR, said Nursalam, ensures that nursing graduates are reliable and potential. Nursalam believes that Nursing is the future science in supporting the government’s program to reduce the rate of mortality and illness, through promotion and preventive role. Nursing is also a holistic study, involving humanistic and caring approach applied by all health professions in giving care to patients. Nursalam expects that both the government and educational institutions or colleges can always support and facilitate the development of nursing science. This can be done by increasing research projects and improving human resources through scholarships, increased recruitment, etc. It is also necessary to increase the number of facilities for practice by providing more representative laboratories.

It is also important to strengthen networks for the distribution of graduates through Government to Government, Person to Person, and Government to Person programs. In addition to financial support, the government should also seriously improve the bureaucracy. Bureaucracy must work effectively and real actions are needed to support all policies. Nursalam is an active member in many organizations including in the Indonesian National Nurses Association of regional or provincial level, as well as at the national level. In addition to teaching and advising thesis writing, Nursalam also regularly publishes his research results. Nursalam has also participated in a number of both national and international conferences, including “Nursing Informatics Development to Create Indonesia Nurses with Global Standard” at ITS Surabaya, and “Shanghai International Conference Nursing Education in Indonesia: Todays and Future Role)” in Shanghai. Last year, Nursalam participated in “The 5th International Nursing Conference (The Power of Caring in Improving Nursing Quality of Care and Patient Safety)”. (*)
