Moh. Yasin

Mohammed Yasin deserves to achieve the title of outstanding lecturer in Universitas Airlangga, twice in a row, in 2012 and 2013. He often writes scientific publications in several international journals. Since 2008, no less than 49 articles discussing fiber optic have already been written in Scopus indexed journals. Referring to his contributions, he recently is recorded in 146 figures of Role Model in the Development of Science [according to the website www. indonesia2045.com], ranked 63. Furthermore, in 2015, his work was awarded the most outstanding publications in Universitas Airlangga as he poured his thoughts and expertise in many scientific journals. The most resounding success for him is the award from Emerald Publisher, an international publisher, with category of Highly Recommended Paper Award in 2013. He ranked second on the 40 articles of all authors around the world. Yasin is the second person in Indonesia who received the award. He took Physics Studies at undergraduate program in Universitas Airlangga from 1985 to 1990. In 1996, he continued his study at Universitas Gadjah Mada to earn his master degree.

His interest in the world of fiber optics arose during his doctorate study at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 2006. In 2007, Yasin developed applications of fiber optic – displacement sensor. This research has turned into many publications. Hence, he received competence grants in the field of fiber optic for his study of “Aplikasi Sensor Mikro Pergeseran Dengan Menggunakan Serat Optik Bundel 1000 RF untuk Deteksi Kalsium”. He will have received the grant by 2017 after further developing this research. He admits that he is still eager to develop further study in this field. In order to make these applications with high performance optimization, he will both improve the stability of the sensor and increase the sensitivity of the technique to synergize wavelength laser light source. He plans, in the near future, to develop an application of micro displacement sensor using fiber optic to detect magnesium ion. Hopefully, this technology can be applied not only in medical, but also in biochemistry. (*)
