David Sontani Perdanakusuma

David Sontani Perdanakusuma is a competent plastic surgeon from UNAIR that is often quoted by the media. In addition to teaching, the author of at least eight books is also active in conducting research and community service. He organized 10 large-scale community service activities in the range of 2006 to 2014, at regional/national level. One of the “face off” patients ever handled by David (with the team) was Siti Nur Jazilah alias Lisa, a victim of acid attack of her own husband. In addition, as the Chairman of the Indonesian Council of the Medicine College, he is also often included in the separation team of conjoined twins.

The expertise of this father of four children in scalpel “craftmanship”, has earned him many awards from associations, local governments, and even the central government. The professor who had attended trainings in Singapore, Belgium, Australia, USA, and Canada is also a regular speaker at many seminars, congresses, as well as other scientific events from national level, up to the international level. In addition, the Deputy Dean of the UNAIR Faculty of Medicine was also officially appointed as external examiner on Doctorate program at the University of Indonesia, Udayana University, Hasanuddin University, Padjadjaran University, and the Gajah Mada University in the period 20122015. He also holds a prolific number of patents and copyrights.

The intellectual property includes the use of Hydroquinone for Preventing and Treating Keloids, Copyright for Wound Manequin, Copyright for Wound Poster, Copyright for Interactive CD on Emergency Breathing (Module 1), and Copyright for Interactive CD & E Circulation (Module 2). Including, Copyright for Interactive CD & E Burns and Copyright for Interactive CD on Paediatric Emergency. David said, the application of plastic surgery was originated from the efforts in structure reconstruction of human body parts. For example, for those who were disfigured in an accident or a birth condition that needs to be addressed. As well as those who were born with cleft or without ears. Along the way, plastic surgery also covers the field of aesthetic. It provides service to people who in their own willingness want to improve the face or body parts. Under conditions that he/ she desires to do so without coercion and with a logical reason. Plastic surgeons are required to comply with the ethical guidelines and religious guidelines.
